Image
Guess what time it is? Yup, it's that magical season when the days get shorter, and the air turns all crisp and begs you to light the firepit. You know what I'm talking about – it's fall! And while you might think the chill in the air is your signal to head indoors, the truth is it's the absolute perfect time to get out there and show some love to Mother Nature. Here are ten of our favorite ways to celebrate the changing of the season:  Stroll Through Nature.  You've got to get outside and soak in the gorgeous fall foliage before it's too late. Take a leisurely walk or hike through your local parks or nature spots. You won't believe the incredible colors the trees turn – it's like a real-life painting!   Check out this cool  fall foliage map that predicts when the leaves will change each year in each state!   Leaf Peeping Fun.  You've heard of people going "leaf peeping," right? As the leaves get ready to put on their spectacular fall show and the breeze takes on that familiar chill, let's chat about a must-know topic for your next hiking or camping escapade: the art of layering. Getting your layers right not only keeps you comfy but also ensures your safety in the great outdoors. So, grab your backpack, gear up, and let's dive into the essentials of layering for your upcoming adventure! Layer #1. Let's Start with the Base Layer: Cotton's Comfy Vibe, But Watch Out! First off, your base layer is the unsung hero in regulating your body temperature when you're out in the wild. Now, we all love the coziness of cotton. It's soft and breathable, and it feels like a second skin, right? But here's the thing – when you're in nature, cotton doesn't play nice with moisture. It doesn't pull sweat away from your skin, which can be a real problem if your clothes get wet. It could even up the risk of hypothermia. So, instead of all-cot

Sisters Supporting Sisters: Camping Noire Embraces Fun & Wellness Through Double Dutch

Image
Last month, we had the very fun honor of supporting Camping Noire Sister friend Sydney Cunningham and her fantastic 40+ Double Dutch Group in Toms River.  Prior to this evening, it's been more than 15 years since we've stepped inside of a rope, but let me let y'all know right now...WE STILL GOT IT!! Lol. It was a perfect night to relive the thrill of jumping rope under the open sky, and embracing childhood memories with each rhythmic clap of the ropes was magical. Figuring out that some of us were raised to know the rope being "off" as double-handed and for others, it was called 'flickted (which we also reached a verdict was short for CONflicted) was absolutely hilarious and reinforced the fact that although we grew up STATES apart from one another, our shared experiences as melanated children, now women, is special.   The nostalgic play extended beyond Double Dutch - by the end of the night, we learned the official line dance, and by the end of the night, Zum

We're thrilled to announce that Camping Noire has been invited by Sorako Tours, a remarkable black and woman-owned travel company, to join their upcoming expedition to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in June 2024. While we won't be the first, we aim to contribute to the legacy of black female adventurers who have conquered this iconic peak. This is an extraordinary opportunity, and we're extending an open invitation to join our founder, Tasheea Nicholson , as one of the 5 passionate adventurers representing Camping Noire on this historic journey. If you've ever dreamt of conquering Africa's highest peak while being part of an inspiring, trailblazing sisterhood, here's your chance.  We recognize that such an adventure can come with financial challenges. That's why we're hosting a fundraiser to make this expedition possible. Here's how you can help: Donate: Your generous contribution directly supports covering expedition costs and making this incredible jou

Embracing Nature's Soothing Touch: Friendly Ways to Manage Poison Ivy

Image
Imagine this: You've just returned from an epic four-week back-to-back camping adventure, surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness. But hold on, the adventure doesn't quite stop there. Somewhere along the way, you unknowingly crossed paths with poison ivy, and now you're dealing with the notorious itch and discomfort. Fear not, because though I am scratching my skin away, I'm going to use it as a teachable moment to share some super friendly and natural ways that I have learned to help manage this irritating rash. So, the first rule of the nature-lovers handbook is to know your plants! Poison ivy loves to play a sneaky game, so getting familiar with its telltale "leaves of three" can help you avoid it in the future. Also, consider suiting up in long clothes and gloves to give you a friendly barrier against potential plant encounters. If you're like me and have already noticed that itchy red patch, the first thing you'll want to do is head straight to
